Addict threatened officer with airgun

A judge has postponed sentencing on a man who threatened a police officer with an airgun.

Ipswich Crown Court heard on Friday that a psychiatrist had assessed Jason Parker, 22, as having significant mental health and drug issues.

Parker, of Maldon Court, Great Cornard, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence against Pc Jake Lees on April 7.

The court heard how regular meetings that Parker was having at a local drug support organisation appeared to be paying off and he had committed no more offences.

Judge Rupert Overbury told Parker that the offence he had committed was a serious one but accepted that more time was needed before the most appropriate sentence could be passed.

Sentencing was deferred until April on the condition that Parker lives at his home address, commits no offences and meets at least once a fortnight with his drug worker.
