Gainsborough’s House in Sudbury has been given an £85,000 grant by the Arts Council.

The money – given out as part of a national round of funding totalling £5.7million – will go towards establishing a new business approach to help the museum become self-sufficient.

Commercial and marketing managers will come on board, while there are plans to upgrade the museum’s facilities.

Gainsborough’s House director Mark Bills said the grant was vital in his plan to make the museum a well-known heritage site.

“We are developing the museum to ensure we get more visitors so that we can become financially stable,” he said.

National Heritage retailer John Beale has also donated £25,000 to the museum to be used to redevelop the shop and help boost sales.
