A past winner of the Young Citizen Award has paid tribute to how it helped her.

Izabela Pawlic, former head girl at Sudbury Ormiston Academy, was presented with a Youth Rotary Leadership Award at Newton Green Golf club on Monday.

Accepting her certificate, Izabela, who came third in the individual category and joint first in the team nomination, said the award had meant a lot to her.

“She made a short presentation about how it had helped her develop good leadership skills and paid tribute to the Young Citizen Award,” said Val Goodchild.

Izabela also came second in 2011 when anti-knife crime campaigner Holly Watson won the award.

Holly went on to be named as one of the five winners in the RIBI National Young Citizen Awards. She took part in a live presentation on the BBC News Channel and continues to work to prevent young people from carrying knives.
