Bures Primary School headteacher Christine Furniss spent her last day at the school this week – ending a 30-year association.
Children went on a farewell walk on Monday with Mrs Furniss, who is retiring, while staff organised a party.
She said: “It is a wrench to be leaving, but I am quite excited about the future.
“I live in Bures so I will always keep in touch with what’s going on here. I’m sure I will be bumping into parents a lot.”
Mrs Furniss, whose four children went to the school, first became involved there as a parent in 1983 when her eldest son enrolled.
She became a part-time teacher and deputy head before taking on the role of headteacher 12 years ago.
She plans to visit China to see her youngest son, Harvey, and spend more time with her other children, Joel, Elliot and Chloe, who is also a teacher.
