A golden wedding celebration has led to £700 being raised for a cancer charity.

Clive and Linda Albon celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a party in Long Melford Village Hall.

Instead of gifts, the couple asked for donations to Clic Sargent, a charity close to their hearts as their grandson recovered from childhood cancer when he was three.

Mr and Mrs Albon were married in Clare Church on February 11, 1967. They have lived most of their married lives in Long Melford, raising three children.

They were joined by more than 100 family and friends, arriving in a Ford Anglia.

Mr Albon said: “We were amazed at the number of people who joined us, including many members of the original wedding party who we had not seen for many years.”

Mrs Albon added: “People were so generous. They gave over £700 in donations – we just cannot believe this.”
