CUPS of tea and coffee and, of course, the odd slice of cake helped raise £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
A strong turn-out of visitors packed into Newton Green Village Hall for a coffee morning in aid of the charity, which provides specialist health care and support for those affected by cancer, on Saturday.
The fundraiser, which was organised by Elsa Stevens, was run as a precursor to the charity’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which will see thousands of people across the country run similar events tomorrow and Saturday.
“It was really good,” said Mrs Stevens, a former cancer patient who was given the all-clear five years ago.
“We made around £850, which was splendid, and everyone was so generous in giving up their time and money,” she said.
“Cancer touches so many people, not just the patients but family and friends as well, so anything like this is worth doing.”
