Former jockey Bob Champion officially opened new facilities completed as part of a £250,000 refurbishment at a Long Melford care home.

Mr Champion, who won the Grand National in 1981, was joined by Sudbury mayor Adrian Osborne for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Melford Court in Hall Street.

The home, which has 45 residents, held entertainment and invited visitors to get a valuation of antiques by BBC Bargain Hunt expert Michael Roberts.

“Everyone had a great day out, with the chance to look round the home,” said manager Lynn Ward. “We were delighted that our community could join us on the day.”
