No time for complacency

THE success of a fundraising appeal for a charity which supports adults with learning difficulties must be built upon if the group is to prosper in the future.

That is according to Jack Owen, chairman of Helping Hands – the fundraising arm of Sudbury Resource Centre – as a year of fundraising draws to a close.

The appeal is on course to raise £10,000 by the time it ends in March, with the money being used to create an outside garden cafe run by adults at the centre on the Chilton Industrial Estate.

Mr Owen said that although the scheme had been a “roaring success”, the charity could not afford to sit back and admire its work.

“It is important that we build on this success and keep the money coming in,” he said.

“Securing funds from the statutory bodies is becoming more and more difficult so we have no choice but to put huge efforts into our own fundraising if the centre is to have a long and prosperous future.”

Mr Owen, who is also deputy mayor of Sudbury, added that a variety of events were already being planned to help boost the total.

“During the campaign, we have had marvellous support from within the community and we hope that continues in 2012,” he said.
