Knives are destroyed
MORE than 6,000 knives handed in as part of an amnesty campaign have been destroyed.
During the course of the year-long “Bin a Blade” campaign, a total of 6,125 knives and bladed weapons were handed in at police stations across Suffolk.
Yesterday, the knives were shredded at Sackers Recycling in Great Blakenham. A handful will be used to make an award.
The campaign was inspired by Sudbury teenager Holly Watson, following the death of her brother Lewis in 2009.
Holly, from First Avenue, said she was glad so many knives which could have been used to commit crimes had been taken off the streets.
