Hadleigh girl’s big waddle
Nine-year-old Frankie Stenning and Jamie Millar from Hadleigh are walking more than seven miles to raise money for Northern Rockhopper penguins.
A nine-year-old Hadleigh girl and her nanny are raising money for endangered penguins through a sponsored pier-to-pier walk.
Frankie Stenning is hoping to raise more than £100 for the RSPB by walking from the piers of Walton-on-the-Naze to Clacton-on-Sea on November 1 - a distance of more than seven miles.
The Littlegarth School pupil became captivated with the north rockhopper penguins after reading an article in her Birdlife magazine.
“I am a member of the RSPB and I saw it had an appeal for rockhopper penguins,” she said. “I really wanted to help as they are my favourite birds.”
Frankie and her nanny Jamie Millar will also wear t-shirts to commemorate the forthcoming event.
Mrs Millar, 34, said the seaside walk was to be done in order to be as close to the far-away penguins as possible.
Jamie said: “Frankie really loves birdwatching, so seeing the article really sparked an interest.”
The North Rockhopper penguin has been featured in animated features such as Happy Feet and television series The Penguins Of Madagascar.
