A cafe owner in Sudbury has decided to hold a charity tea party after a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The Rude Strawberry in Friars Street is holding a strawberry tea and coffee morning on Tuesday, between 9am and midday, and hopes to raise at least £250 for Breast Cancer Care.

Cafe owner Janette Osman, from Rose Green in Assington, decided to organise the event when a close friend was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We wanted to do something to raise money to help people like my friend through a scary and uncertain time,” said the 48-year-old.

“To be able to tie it in with the anniversary of our first year of trading will also be quite special.”

All proceeds from tea, coffee and cake sales will be donated to the charity, and there will be a raffle, games and prizes.

Alec Raven, head of community fundraising at Breast Cancer Care, said: “Every year in the UK, 55,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer.

“That is why we’re so grateful to the team at The Rude Strawberry for all the hard work they have put in to organising this event.”
