TRADITIONAL cream teas will be at the ready as a town council prepares to show its patriotic spirit to celebrate St George’s Day later this month.
Sudbury Town Council will be offering free tea, coffee and cakes at the town’s tourist information centre in Gaol Lane on April 23.
Town clerk Sue Brotherwood said: “This is the first time we have had an event to celebrate St George’s Day, but Sudbury is a very patriotic town, which is proud of its history, so we thought it was the correct thing to do.
“What better way is there to celebrate our patron saint then with a traditional cream tea? You can’t get much more English than that.”
The council took over the management of the centre earlier this month, saving it from almost certain closure and Babergh District Council has agreed to pay an annual fee of £15,000 towards management costs over the next two years.
