AN EU-FUNDED scheme offering training and experience for people who are not working – in return for helping at a heritage centre – has been launched in Sudbury.
Based at Gainsborough’s House, the birthplace museum of artist Thomas Gainsborough, the scheme provides volunteer placements for anyone aged 18 and over to operate tills, deal with the public, and learn marketing and administration skills.
Nick Winch from the Gainsborough Street-based museum said: “Everyone can be involved, including mums with a bit of time on their hands now the kids are at school, to people who have taken early retirement.
“This scheme supports people as they develop new skills while experiencing life in a nationally-respected museum and gallery.”
The scheme runs until May, 2012, and is being funded by the European Union Social Fund.
