A THEATRE is looking to expand by building a new media centre.
Sudbury’s Quay Theatre has applied for planning permission for the two floor media centre, which would be built towards the end of the car park.
The ground floor will house a small screening room and ticket office, while a larger space for rehearsals, dance and small shows would occupy the first floor.
Bryn Hurren, chairman of The Quay’s board of directors, said: “This is to take the pressure off the main building. We are very busy and we are struggling to find rehearsal and meeting rooms. This is all part of our moves to expand the business.
“The Quay needs more space, we get a lot of approaches from the town and we are constantly looking at the cinema aspect.”
Mr Hurren explained that an early estimate for the cost of the detached, eight-metre high development would be in excess of £150,000.
“It will be a case of fundraising and probably a lottery grant for the money,” he said.
The application will go before Sudbury Town Council planning for consultation on Monday, with a decision expected to be made by Babergh District Council’s development committee by February 15.
