Patricia Blair felt at home as soon as she arrived in Sudbury to start her new job as manager of the town’s Waitrose store.
“I was made to feel really welcome in the store and in the town,” said Patricia, who took up her post in June.
“It is a fantastic store with fantastic team spirit.”
She is a strong supporter of Waitrose’s charity project Community Matters where customers are given tokens to decide the distribution of a monthly donation from the company.
“Sudbury is a particularly good example,” she says. “Community Matters is ever so well supported here.
“We try to choose local charities because people can identify more with them.
“Each charity gets a sizeable cheque which can really make a difference, and I think customers enjoy taking part and feel they are giving something back.”
Patricia started her retail career straight from university as a management trainee with British Home Stores.
She has been a store manager for 15 years – her last job was managing a branch in Enfield.
She commutes from the home in Saffron Walden that she shares with husband Mark and their dog Poppy.
She believes in enjoying work. “It’s great fun when you have a good team to lead,” she says.
