Two members of staff from Sainsbury’s in Sudbury celebrated 65 years with the company between them last week.

Chris Pilgrim, who works in beers, wines and spirits, and store manager Martin Pyle have given 35 and 30 years of service to the supermarket chain respectively.

Mr Pilgrim, who lives in Great Cornard, previously worked in Colchester, Ipswich and London before starting at the Cornard Road store which opened in November, while Mr Pyle worked in Cambridge.

“After 35 years working around the east of England, coming back to where I was born was a great feeling,” said Mr Pilgrim. “I have done lots of different jobs with Sainsbury’s and the biggest change I have seen over the years has to be when they brought in the scanning of items on checkouts in the 1980s.”

Mr Pyle added: “I love it in Sudbury. We have built a fantastic store here and I love working with the team of colleagues I have.

“It doesn’t feel like 30 years. I can remember back to my first day. There have been highs and lows but I have thoroughly enjoyed my 30 years and it has absolutely flown by.”
