The owner of a highly-regarded Lavenham restaurant was thrilled after the business came out top in a list of British eateries.
The Great House Restaurant and Hotel was named as the winner in the ‘fabulous food’ category of Sawday’s British Hotel Awards, announced alongside a new edition of Alastair Sawday’s Special Places to Stay: British Hotels & Inns.
Chef and proprietor Regis Crepy said he was “very pleased” with the award.
“What pleases me the most is that we were chosen out of all of the restaurants,” he said.
“Winning the food award out of all of England is so special. After 30 years, we are still winning awards.”
Mr Crepy said he felt his restaurant stood out because of his staff’s passion, both for food and the industry as a whole, adding that “caring for customers” was key to their success.
“We are thinking every day about what we can do to improve or carry on what we are doing,” he said.
“It’s not a sprint – it is a constant marathon.”
The hotel’s rooms were also complimented in the new edition for their mix of traditional features and modern technology, a balance Mr Crepy said was important to keep.
He said the success of the restaurant and Lavenham went hand in hand.
