Sudbury Snooker Club is celebrating having completed extensive works to provide new facilities that it hopes will attract new members.

The club, in North Street, was established in 1985 but is boasting a smart new look following a month of building and decorating work.

Louise Milton, who has owned the club for six years, said the main area has been split into a new function room with a dance floor that can be used for events of up to 140 people, separate from the snooker room’s five competition tables.

“It was nice before but now it’s been brought into the 21st century it is even better,” she said.

“We want people to come and have a look around – a lot of people may not even know we are here.”

The club, which has around 300 members, also has a bar, pool and billiards tables, four darts boards and games machines and can be hired for weddings, christenings and celebrations. Casper, a nine-year-old African Grey talking parrot, welcomes visitors from his cage in the bar.

Club privileges are only available to bona fide members and guests.

The club is accepting new members, with a year’s playing membership costing £24 per year, or £12 for a social membership.

Opening times are 11am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday. For more information, visit the club or call Louise on 01787 376209.
