Sudbury silk firm appoints new director

Vanners Silk Weavers has confirmed the appointment of a new production director.

Dean Brace has worked his way up through the firm after starting off in the dye house.

Thirty-three years ago, he joined the company as a 17-year-old, beginning only his second job.

After taking on further roles, including managing the warehouse, company chairman David Tooth said he really started to notice Mr Brace’s qualities.

“He did a really good job,” he said. “He’s a really good manager of people.”

Later, Mr Brace was given overall control of manufacturing, before being appointed to the company’s board.

Mr Tooth said: “Dean has a wealth of knowledge. We didn’t really have direct representation from the manufacturing side.

“We felt he was the obvious choice. We have 120 employees here – he’s come through the ranks and knows everybody.”

Based in Sudbury, Vanners designs and manufactures silk that is sold throughout the world to luxury fashion brands.
