Ipswich Town Football Club have thanked roofers from a company in Clare for ensuring a crucial FA Cup game did not have to be called off.

Workers from ELC Roofing, based in Nethergate Street, were called in after a sky light at the club’s Portman Road ground became loose.

The problem placed a match against Preston on January 4 in doubt, with just 24 hours to kick-off.

“It was very windy that weekend and we had to go up in a crane to fix the sky light and make sure it was secure,” said Tom Creek, from ELC Roofing.

“It was a race against time as, if we had not be able to do it, the game would have been called off.”

Thanks to the roofers, the game went ahead, with the sides drawing 1-1.

Greg Pillinger, the stadium manager, said he was grateful to the company.

“Our thanks go to the staff for going above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the game went ahead,” he said.
