Sudbury company’s growth is good news

A SUDBURY company is looking to expand plans for a production building after an increase in business.

British Gaskets was granted permission to build on the former Anglian Water depot in Brundon Lane in July and has now submitted an amended proposal for additional space and car parking to Babergh District Council.

Project manager Tyron Grainger-Jones said: “This is only a minor amendment to what we have permission for, we want to put two extra portals on one end.

“It is good news as since we had the first application in, things have gone very well business-wise. Over the course of time there will be more jobs as everything is going up but it depends on what happens during this first phase.”

He added that there could be up to 20 more jobs than originally thought in due course.

A decision on the amendments is expected from Babergh District Council by December 20.

British Gaskets is valued at around £30million and provides gaskets and moulding materials to various industries including automotive and agricultural markets.

It opened a new factory and warehouse in June to house staff from the company’s offices in Halstead and Brentwood, Essex, as well as those on site in Sudbury.
