Sudbury chippy closes after two decades

A FAMILY business which had served Sudbury for 22 years closed its doors for the last time on Friday.

Peyton Plaice fish and chip takeaway in the Borehamgate Precinct was opened by Valerie Divine-Wyatt in 1990 and is now owned by her and her son, Paul Devine, along with two other restaurants in St Olaves Precinct and Barton Road in Bury St Edmunds.

“We are extremely upset and sorry that we have to close the shop but it is no longer viable,” said Mrs Devine-Wyatt, who added that the Bury St Edmunds businesses were doing well.

The former manager of the Sudbury premises, Nigel Broom, said he has started a new job as a cook at The White Horse in North Street, while three part-time staff have lost their jobs.
