Designer shoes: you can never have too many

The owner of a designer shoe shop in Long Melford has described getting the venture off the ground as a “dream come true”.

Carmen Davis, who moved to England from Romania eight years ago, has been welcoming customers to Carmen’s Designer Shoe Boutique in Hall Street for just over a month.

She juggles running the store with being a single mother to her seven-year-old son Luca, who is autistic, and says she has received lots of positive responses to the new shop.

“It is a bit of a niche because it is the only shoe shop in Melford and sells quite quirky and unique shoes,” said the 37-year-old, who moved to England in 2004.

“I’m very passionate about shoes and I don’t see it as a job. It is hobby which I transformed into a business idea.”

Operating from Waterloo House, which Carmen says has been painted red and black inside to create a “decadent” feel, the shop sells high-end designer shoes. It also offers hire and shoefinder services.

“People who are daring in their choices are my kind of customer,” said Carmen, who lives in Sudbury.

“Shoes are not just for wearing, they are for pleasure too and should give you the opportunity to look glamorous.”

Carmen says she spent months looking for the perfect shop and believes she has found it.

“I’m really happy, my dream has come true,” she said.
