Concerns unlikely to stop development
A DEVELOPMENT of 56 homes in Glemsford is set to get the green light on tomorrow, despite concerns over its size and traffic impacts.
Bloor Homes’ plans for land east of Crownfield Road, including 20 affordable houses, have been recommended for approval by Babergh District Council officers, subject to around £36,000 in contributions for libraries and school places, and will be decided on Wednesday.
Parish councillors also backed the development last month, while noting concerns over pressure on roads due to the increased volume of traffic.
Michael Brown, chairman of Glemsford Parish Council, said: “We had all the plans and details set out in the parish office the Friday before the meeting so they could be viewed.
“Every single person that came was in favour of it and we took their recommendations on board when we considered the application,” said Mr Brown.
“There were concerns about traffic, but Suffolk County Council’s highways department do not think there will be a problem.”
“We have a need for affordable housing and there will also be a children’s play area,” he added.
Hunts Hill resident Pauline Currie was disappointed to see the development recommended for approval.
“There comes a point when a village stops being a village if it expands too much,” she said.
“A huge number of people who returned the village survey last year said they liked the village as it is, so I am not over the moon about this.”
