A NEWTON Green pub has helped boost our appeal to help fund a hospice nurse for the Sudbury area.

Saracen’s Head owner Teresa Symons began selling second-hand books in the pub five weeks ago.

Staff and customers began bringing their books in, and last week Teresa handed over a cheque for £167 to the St Nicholas Hospice Care appeal.

She said: “Any books people no longer read are brought in and we sell them on. It works almost like a library, and hopefully when the next person is finished they will bring it back again.”

Teresa and her staff have raised another £60 since last week.

“We were going to donate to a hospice anyway,” said Ms Symons. “But when we saw the appeal in the Free Press, we thought supporting a local one is even better.”
