Children and staff will be singing happy birthday when their nursery celebrates its 15th anniversary this week.

All 100 pre-school children who attend Woodpeckers Nursery in Melford Road, Sudbury, and their parents and carers are being invited to a celebration party.

Run by Deidre and Jeff Micklewright, the nursery had just five children when it opened in 2001.

Jeff said: “We had five children and 11 staff when we started. Now we have 100 children and 22 staff, and we have expanded the building two or three times since then.”

The celebration includes the opening of a new room for babies aged between one and two to meet increased demand for baby places. A birthday cake in the shape of a woodpecker has been baked for the occasion by Tanswell’s Cakes of Long Melford.

Past and present parents and children are being invited along to join in the fun.
