CUSTOMERS at a village pub showed their generosity after they raised £3,800 for charity.

BBC Radio Suffolk presenters Lesley Dolphin and Mark Murphy handed over a cheque to Help for Heroes on behalf of regulars from The Shoulder of Mutton in Assington.

The money was raised at the pub’s annual “Party in the Garden” on the August Bank Holiday, which featured live music, a barbecue and a bouncy castle.

A Help for Heroes JCB, with its front bucket converted into a giant collection box, was at the pub during last week’s presentation to collect more donations.

Landlady Tina Braithwaite said: “Nearly everyone knows someone in the Army and our customers chose to support Help for Heroes because when the troops get killed, it touches everyone.”

The pub has held a summer fundraiser for three years, raising £1,700 for children’s cancer charity Clic Sargent in its first year, and £3,000 for Help for Heroes in 2010.

Help for Heroes supports men and women who have been injured serving their country in the armed forces.
