An appeal fund has been set up in a bid to save a vital village post office, with residents encouraged to donate whatever they can.
The future of Boxford Post Office was thrown into doubt at the end of January when the owners of Boxford Stores, in which the post office is situated, decided to close the business.
Since then, a licence has been agreed for sub-post master Richard Gates to continue running the service from the property, but Post Office Ltd will not pay for the monthly rent or legal fees that have been accrued from negotiations.
Boxford Community Council has funded the post office for the first month, while the parish council has agreed to pay for a second.
It is now hoped money collected in the appeal will ensure the survival of the post office for the foreseeable future, at least until a permanent home can be found.
