A TALENTED musician has launched his debut album – six months after winning a songwriting competition.

Simon Lucas-Hughes, 18, from Wickham St Paul, marked the release of All the Time, Sometimes with a show at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds.

The studio time for the album, recorded at The Shrubbery studios, was awarded as first prize for winning the 2011 Bury St Edmunds Songwriters’ Competition .

Simon, a former Hedingham School pupil who has been in bands since the age of 14, performed all the vocals and instruments for his record.

“In a sense, it’s more fun being a solo artist in that you have more control, but then again it’s all on you,” he said.

“If you make a mistake, you can’t lean on anyone else.”

Simon, who lives with his parents Tim and Glyn and describes his sound as indie with electro, is currently studying art at Colchester Institute, but has high hopes for his musical future.

“It would be amazing to be a full-time, professional musician,” he added.
