A MEMORIAL motocross event to celebrate the life of a much-loved rider is set to take place next month.
The second Dave Roper Memorial Motocross will be held at Tye Farm in Great Cornard on Sunday, April 10.
The event is held in memory of Dave Roper, 57, from Great Yeldham, a father-of-four who died on July 20, 2009, after his leg got jammed in the back wheel of another bike during a classic motocross race.
Sudbury Motorcycle Club, which is organising the event, is hoping for a bumper turnout, with all proceeds going to the Dave Roper Fund, which helps up-and-coming riders to compete in the British National Enduro Championship.
Club president Roger Chaplin said: “Dave was extremely popular and was our chairman for more than 20 years.
“His family set up the fund and Dave would think it was fantastic that young riders are getting support.
“He was a great character and is sorely missed.”
So far, 30 competitors have entered to take part in the event, with tickets expected to cost £3.
