A local carpenter is offering people the chance to own a unique piece of Hadleigh’s history.

Andy Janas, of Janas Joinery, has been restoring some pews, and removing others, at St Mary’s Church as part of a major refurbishment of the church interior.

Some of the unwanted pews were sold off, and replaced with more comfortable chairs. Now Andy has come up with the idea of making various pieces of furniture out of the remnants left over from the rebuilding of the 20 remaining pews which are now in the church.

People can order exactly what they want, but examples of items on offer include back-to-wall benches, coffee tables, linen chests or book cases.

Each piece is engraved or embossed with a marker verifying the provenance and date.
