Police are hunting arsonists who shoved a lit firework through the letter box of a family home.
The family was asleep upstairs in their house in Head Lane, Great Cornard, when they heard a loud bang at about 1.30am on Sunday.

A police spokesman said: "They rushed downstairs as another explosion took place. The firework did start a small fire, but luckily they managed to put it out before it got hold."

Firefighters from Sudbury attended the incident to make sure the house was safe.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or saw anyone with fireworks in the area.

If you saw anything suspicious in the area at the time, call Sudbury police on 01284 774100 or you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously if you wish, on 0800 555111.
