Great Cornard elects parish chairman - plus other news in brief

Peter Beer has been re-elected as chairman of Great Cornard Parish Council.
His deputy, Humphry Todd, will also remain in his post.

Parish councillors agreed to the pair remaining in their positions at a full council meeting on Monday.

The Priory at Stoke-by-Nayland opens its garden on Saturday, 2-5pm, as part of the National Gardens Scheme. Admission is £3, with children getting in free.

A May Day ball in Monks Eleigh has raised £1,755 towards rebuilding the village hall. More than 100 people enjoyed dinner and a dance at Milden Hall, with music by the Galaxy Big Band.
Children at Monks Eleigh Primary School took part in a parade as part of a fundraising day for the project on Monday. See Thursday's Free Press for pictures.
