A horrific crash has claimed the lives of a father and his two teenage sons.
David Bocking, 43, of Halstead, and his sons Daniel, 14, and Stephen, 13, both of Potton, Bedfordshire, died when their red Peugeot 806 estate collided with a silver VW Golf at about 3.25pm on Saturday.
Police fear that an eight-year-old girl involved in the collision on the A1307 in Cambridgeshire may not survive what was described as the worst crash in living memory on the notorious stretch of road.
Five people remained in hospital yesterday morning following the collision close to the Balsham crossroads at the Haverhill end of the dual carriageway.
The eight-year-old girl, and a 39-year-old woman, described by police as being in critical condition, were in the Peugeot.
Cambridgeshire police said a total of five people were still being treated in Addenbrookes Hospital on Wednesday morning.
A 60-year-old man from the VW Golf was described as being in a critical condition.
He was travelling with a 50-year-old woman, who was in a serious condition on Sunday night, and a 13-year-old girl who was in a serious but stable condition.
The families have asked Cambridgeshire Police not to release details of the injured parties.
Fire crews, ambulances and police officers from Cambridgeshire and Suffolk closed the road for six hours as firefighters fought to rescue the injured and remove the dead from their cars.
Days after the crash, there was still evidence of skid marks and damage to a nearby fence, while a police incident sign, flowers and written tributes mark the scene.
One tribute to 14-year-old Daniel ended with the words: "Have fun wherever you are now. We will miss you. Look after your dad and brother."
The accident happened on a stretch of road branded one of the worst in the country.
A total of 29 people have died on that section of road in the last decade.
The latest crash has doubled the number killed this year to six.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or the cars in the minutes leading up to the crash, to call them on 0845 456 4564.
