The book 101 Dalmatians was written 60 years ago in 1956 by Dodie Smith.

In the book Pongo and Missis travel to Hell Hall, to rescue their puppies from Cruella de Vil, stopping in Sudbury at midnight to drink from a water fountain as the clocks chime.

The excerpt from the book which mentions Sudbury is on a brass plaque on the horse trough at the side of St Peter’s.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary, Sudbury Tourist Information Centre has commissioned local artist Rosemary Bayliss to paint a picture which is being sold as a card at the centre in the town library. The card, costing £1.90, also includes a poem written by Rosemary and some details about Dodie Smith.
