Having worked with McFly producer Craig Hardy last year, Sudbury band Milqud (pronounced "milkwood") are now set to work with a rapper from Oklahoma called Houston Boy.

After noticing a lack of collaboration between unsigned musicians, band members Tom Povall, 21, Nick Horner, 19, Stuart Rawle, 19, and Dee, 25, were eager to form a partnership when they were contacted via the internet site MySpace.

They have already recorded two songs with Houston Boy over the internet, Moving Still and Anthem for the Failed, and are now set to work with the young rapper in person.

"We decided to make a video for our song Anthem for the Failed," said singer and pianist Tom Povall, who lives in Sudbury.

"Obviously, we couldn't do that without Houston Boy, but he was really keen to come over here and film it with us."

The boys from Sudbury have a busy schedule ahead of them once the rapper arrives for a two-week visit on Friday.

They are filming the music video with BAFTA-nominated short film director Kate Heffernan. "We got in touch with Kate through some contacts of our drummer Nick," said Tom.

"We'll be filming it in two parts with a scene of us playing live and a scene in an office. We're also going to try to record a 15-track album with Houston Boy in my home studio, which might be a bit ambitious."

Ambition is one thing Tom and the band have plenty of. The Music Tech graduate is planning to engineer the recording himself in between filming the video. Taking inspiration from successful unsigned Essex act Koopa, the collaboration is going to be completely self-financed. "Houston Boy has been working really hard to get the money to fly over," he said.

"There's not many unsigned bands doing this sort of thing and I'm sure that we'll be working together again. We're planning to go over to America next year for a three-week tour with him."

Milqud and Houston Boy are taking the chance to perform live before the rapper flies back to Oklahoma on July 8. Fans can catch the band for free on July 3 at the Pied Cow in Sudbury. They will also be playing the Bull and Gate in London's Kentish Town on July 6.
