Links between Sudbury and its German twin town were boosted by an annual exchange visit to cement the relationship between the two communities.
Around 30 people from Sudbury went to Höxter to celebrate the 27th year of town twinning.

The weekend trip included a visit to Paderborn for a tour of historic sights.

There was also time to enjoy the North Rhine-Westphalia festival, which featured music, street performances, medieval re-enactments, and produce stalls.

Guests, including Sudbury's mayor and mayoress, Peter and Valerie Goodchild, who are long-time members of the town's twinning
association, also attended a special church service and an open-air concert.

The story of the start of the link between the two towns – as told in the Suffolk Free Press – proved one of the highlights of the visit.

Features written by Valerie almost 30 years ago when she was a Free Press reporter were on display to English and German guests.

The centre spreads from 1979 and 1980 were saved by one of Höxter's leading town twinners, Gunther Gronemeyer, and are now cherished mementoes for his widow, Inge.
