The life of one of Boxford's smallest but boldest celebrities is being celebrated on DVD this summer.
Readers may recall the Free Press December 2006 story of the traumatic ordeal of Milligan the hedgehog, who was left with just three legs after one was damaged by a car and had to be removed by Sudbury vet Gerhard Putter.
Brave Milligan went on to make an outstanding recovery, and his life with three legs has inspired one retired businessman to pen a song and record a DVD of his life.
Keith Egglestone, who lives in Assington and is the retired managing director of Top Marque embroidery studio in Sudbury, has turned his passion for photography and video recording into a creative project with pupils of Boxford Primary School.
He said: "I found Milligan's story great, and thought it was the sort of story that should really involve children.
"I wrote the lyrics for a song about Milligan's life and then persuaded a friend of mine to write the music," he said of Norfolk musician and co-creator Alan Harley.
"Milligan lives with a couple in Boxford and my grandchildren, Chloe and William, attend Boxford Primary School. I contacted the headteacher and he was happy for the choir to perform the song for the DVD, which I edited myself," he added.
Headteacher Robert Giles said: "The choir usually perform what I would call geriatric pop songs, by groups like The Monkees and The Beatles. Keith contacted me with his idea, and after a few rehearsals, we recorded the song and filmed the DVD.
"We then asked the pupils in the art club to create some pictures of Milligan and his three-legged adventures for the front cover. The children had a lovely time with a tongue-in-cheek project and Keith did a grand job with the song and the DVD."
Despite his new found fame, Milligan hasn't moved to Hollywood just yet and he still lives in a rather luxurious walled garden in Boxford.
The song will be performed at an end-of-term music evening at the school on July 8, which is open to pupils and their parents. For any further information about the evening or the DVD, please contact the school on 01787 210332.
