Villagers positive about homes plan for factory site
Plans for up to 110 new homes in Great Cornard have been received positively by residents and councillors.
St Congar, the developer for the three-hectare site near Radiator Road currently occupied by the former Guilford Europe factory, met with villagers to present tentative plans at Great Cornard Parish Council on Monday night.
Councillor Mark Newman said: “There was no hostility from the residents and the developers seemed to be doing a lot to speak to them.”
Concerns were raised by some residents regarding a lack of parking along Radiator Road, proposed accesses from Broom Street and Philips Field Road, while Mr Newman said he would prefer to see a designated children’s play area moved to the village recreation ground.
“It looks a decent development, as long as they stick to what they are saying,” added Mr Newman.
A spokeswoman for Iceni Projects, the community engagement company working for St Congar, said: “There was a very positive response with an overwhelming majority of people supporting the redevelopment of the derelict site for residential use.”
The spokeswoman added that the plans would seek to address residents’ concerns where possible.
An outline planning application is expected to be submitted by the end of the year.
