Former Boxford Primary School pupil Marlon Hammond and his family survived the typhoon in the Philippines unscathed.
Youngsters and staff at the school had been in the dark about the fate of the 10-year-old, who moved to the country three years ago.
But Debbie Russell, from Glemsford, contacted the Free Press on Thursday with the news that she had been in contact with the family.
“I have kept in touch with Marlon’s mum and dad by email and they are safe,” said Mrs Russell.
“The place where they live was not affected and I didn’t like to think of the children worrying.”
