Village games with emphasis on fun

THE competitive nature of athletics took a back seat as more than 100 youngsters took part in a silly Olympics in Stoke-by-Nayland.
Traditional events were replaced by a bungee run, an unrideable horse and a shot-put-style coconut shy at the village’s recreation ground on Saturday.
Around 140 children joined in the fun and there were also a handful of more traditional track and field events taking place.
Julia Stansfield, one of the organisers, said the day had proved very popular.
“It was an excellent community event and people had hours of fun,” she said.
“We had 30 volunteers helping out and it was a fantastic day.”
Mrs Stansfield said that 65 medals had been handed out to competitors who excelled in the games.
