The stage is set in Sudbury
THE stage is set for talented performers of all ages to strut their stuff.
Sudbury’s 90th Festival of Performing Arts gets under way at Sudbury Upper School on Saturday.
Founded as the Clare Festival in 1922, the event gives entrants of varying abilities from across the county the chance to showcase their skills in hundreds of competitive classes in dance, music, speech and drama.
This year, the festival will begin at 10am with the dance section, where modern, tap and ballet competitions will be among those taking place in front of judges and a live audience.
Joan Garden, chairman for the fifth time, said she was looking forward to another festival packed with entertainment and new faces
“The event has grown dramatically in stature and influence since it first began but we are determined to ensure the high-standards achieved in recent years are maintained,” she said.
“We always encourage the involvement of new entrants, whether they be individuals or from organised groups or schools, and wish everyone taking part good luck.”
The dance section will run until Tuesday afternoon when a presentation of awards will be held.
This is to be followed by the music discipline at Sudbury Town Hall and Delphi Club in early March, with the speech and drama section later in the month.
Entry to the various sessions costs £2.
