New village homes meet local demand

A £410,000 development which will see four much-needed affordable homes built in Edwardstone is well under way.

The project in Mill Green will create two two-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom bungalows.

Work on the build started in November after Babergh District Council agreed to donate the land to developers free of charge, with two council-owned houses being demolished.

Sue Wigglesworth, chairman of the council’s housing panel, said the project was a vital step forward for people in the area.

“It is imperative that affordable housing is provided for people as it means that we, in partnership with others, can ensure that our communities offer housing to those in greatest need,” she said.

Funding for the homes has been provided by Iceni Homes, Suffolk Housing, the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency, as well as the district council.

Iceni managing director Mike Goodson said: “We are delighted to be delivering affordable homes in Edwardstone, which will help to meet the growing local housing need in the village.”

It is hoped the homes will be completed and ready for tenants by the spring.
