‘Just watch where you swing that’
NICE SHOT: Members of Sudbury's Oddfellows group enjoy a spot of croquet.
FINDING new and exciting things to do during the latter stages of summer can be difficult.
But for members of Sudbury’s Oddfellows – a group welcoming people of all ages to meet, make friends and take part in days out together – the solution was simple ... croquet.
On Wednesday, members of the town’s branch, which formed earlier this year, met at Sudbury Croquet Club in Quay Lane and quickly set about getting to grips with the sport.
“As the Sudbury group is fairly new, we wanted to try something different,” said social secretary Margaret Maybury, from Acton.
“Most people haven’t played before and this is all part of getting members to find out what is on offer in the town. And it’s a really good game.”
After learning the skill of precisely knocking balls through hoops with mallets, under the guidance of club experts, members took on some well earned refreshments.
“I think everyone enjoyed the day and it is something we would do again,” said Mrs Maybury.
Oddfellows meetings take place at Gainsborough’s House in Gainsborough Street on the last Wednesday of every month.
