Inaugural Edwardstone festival well received
FESTIVAL FIRST: White Horse owner John Norton at the poetry and spoken word event held at the weekend.
A PUB’S first attempt at staging a poetry and spoken word festival at the weekend was “very positive”, according to its owner.
The White Horse in Edwardstone hosted around 15 acts from across the area on Saturday and Sunday at the event dubbed the “fringe festival.”
John Norton, who has owned the pub for seven years, said: “This was our first time and we organised the festival at quite short notice, but I was staggered at how good the contributors were.”
A steady stream of visitors ensured that a constant 20-strong crowd was present to see performers, including Colin and Karen Cater’s Spirit of the Hare, Derek and Gillian Phillips from Sudbury Café Poets and singer Megan Railton.
Mr Norton explained that tentative ideas were being put forward for the future of the festival.
“The response we’ve had has been very positive and I think we are going to continue the festival and maybe even make it a bit bigger and more diverse in future,” he said.
