Fair returns to Priory

ORGANISERS of Clare Priory craft fair are hoping for bumper crowds as they seek to improve on last year’s record attendance.

The event, held in the house and grounds of Suffolk’s historic Augustinian priory, attracted 10,000 people last year and more than 150 stalls are set to pitch up this weekend.

A wide selection of traditional and modern craft will be on offer at the fair, which is running for the 19th year.

Jane Ranzetta, one of the fair’s committee members, said: “We are convinced we will have good weather and all the stalls love coming here because the atmosphere is so friendly.

“Fingers crossed we can beat last year’s record number of visitors.”

Activities taking place during the weekend include a Punch and Judy show, face-painting and live music.

Around £20,000 was raised from the event last year, with money going to a number of charities as well as the £1.2million extension of the 13th century Priory’s church.

Tickets for the fair, running from 10am to 5pm on Saturday and 11am to 5pm on Sunday, are £4 for adults, £3 for seniors and free for accompanied children under 14.
