Charity gifts

BUYING the perfect birthday present can be something of a conundrum.

But for guests invited to a party at the Five Bells in Great Cornard on Saturday the decision making was taken out of their hands as two friends opted for charitable donations in place of presents.

Clare Risley, from Ballingdon, and Mandy Norman, from Cornard, chose to forgo gifts this year in order to raise money for the Macmillan unit at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

“We didn’t want any presents and raised £270 for Macmillan instead,” said Mrs Risley.

“I have known many people who have been affected by cancer and the macmillan nurses do a fantastic job.”

Mrs Risley added that she would like to thank everyone who donated and the owners of the Five Bells, Wendy and Bob Hedley.
