Charities need volunteers

An appeal has gone out for volunteers to help with two different charities – one connected with heritage and the other with caring.

The National Trust is asking people to get involved in new voluntary roles at the 16th century manor house Melford Hall, in Long Melford.

Luke Potter, the trust’s property manager for Melford Hall, said: “We’re a small, friendly group and we’re really looking forward to welcoming some new faces to the team.”

Roles include assisting with marketing, the hall’s website and social media, meeting and greeting visitors, working as conservation assistants and house stewards, and working in the shop and cafe. Anyone interested should call house manager Josephine Waters on 01787 379228.

Meanwhile, St Nicholas Hospice Care is looking for people to join its Hospice Neighbours scheme in Sudbury. Neighbours do practical jobs that can overwhelm those suffering life-shortening illness, such as walking the dog, light housework, mowing the lawn, going to the post office or having a chat over a couple of tea.

Kay Newman who co-ordinates the scheme, said: “We know there are people in Sudbury who will really benefit from a neighbour’s help.”

If you are interested in helping, contact Kay on 01284 719638.
