Challenge to eat local

RESIDENTS in Hadleigh are being challenged to change the way they shop over the next month.

The town is one of many is the county which is taking part in the 30-Mile Food Challenge during September.

This initiative tasks those willing to get involved to only drink and eat food which has been produced within a 30-mile area.

Jane Haylock, a member of the town’s chamber of commerce, said she hoped the scheme would be a success.

“If people shop locally, they will be surprised just how many things are produced a short distance from where they live,” she said.

“The food is fresher and has less packaging, it reduces food miles and offers more choice than standard lines in supermarkets.”

Leaflets giving details of the challenge are available from Partridges Farm Shop and The Idler Bookshop in High Street, Hadleigh.
