Bandmates remembered at music day
AN emotional day of live music celebrating the lives of two bandmates from Sudbury who died at a young age was a great success.
Acts including Chris Helme of The Seahorses and Mark Morriss of The Bluetones headlined the event at The White Horse pub on Sunday, August 26, commemorating local men Lee Dunford and Liam Steer.
Lee died from Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006, aged 21, while Liam, 27, collapsed while teaching in Thailand after suffering a heart attack in July. The pair had performed together while at Sudbury Upper School.
Lee’s mum, Rosie Dunford, who attended the event with her husband Rob, said: “There were lots of Lee’s and Liam’s friends there and they were all brilliant.
“There was a really nice atmosphere and it was good to talk about the boys in a positive way and share memories.”
Annual festival LeeStock has been held in memory of Mr Dunford for the last five years, raising £37,000 for The Willow Foundation charity.
“It is so sad that this has happened to two guys from the same bunch of friends, but they have taken over as our sons and daughters and it is their stories that help get us through,” said Mrs Dunford. “They are feeling the hurt as much as we are.”
Event organiser Pete Keogh, who also arranges LeeStock, said: “We did it to give people the chance for something a bit lower key, to spend time chatting with friends of Liam and Lee’s to remember them both and share stories about them.”
